White Is Not Right. Bin the Bread

By Henry John

The smell of freshly baked white bread is fantastic, isn't it? A crusty slice of white bread covered in butter and jam...wow! It's difficult to imagine that anything so tasty could be bad for you, but don't be fooled!

Across the globe everybody is eating more and more white bread and it is causing a big problem - weight gain.

There are two problems with white bread. The first is that it's made with refined flour. Nothing wrong with that, you might think, but that's not the case. 'Refined' means that most of the goodness has been taken out. In the refining process, essential minerals, vitamins and fiber that we need have been 'refined away'. What we're left with might taste good, but its nutritional value is low. All that white bread does is to keep our jaws busy.

The fact that white bread contains white flour means that it is no longer behaves like a complex carbohydrate like wholemeal bread, for example. It is more of a simple carbohydrate, like sugar. It has a high glycaemic index which means that it encourages your body to produce insulin which in turn increases your appetite. You could say that white bread actually makes you hungry!

If that were not enough, white bread contains a huge amount of salt. The next time you pick up a loaf of white bread, have a look at how much salt there is in one slice of bread. Bread constitutes over 25% of our daily salt intake. (Your daily intake of salt should be 4g and never above 6g).

A depressing fact is that too many of us get a large proportion of our daily energy intake from white bread.

A high level of salt is not good for us for a number of reasons. First, it encourages your body to retain too much fluid. This in turn causes high blood pressure, bloating and a significantly increased risk of stroke and heart disease. It also causes you to be thirsty and all too often we answer the call for liquid with food. The result is obvious - weight gain.

The best thing to do is to get into the habit - the slim habit, of not eating white bread. Eat bread if you have to, but not white. If you keep to the slim habit of not eating bread, it will help you to lose weight, and that's got to be good!

Enjoy Your Weight Loss

By Cassandra Segoviano

Daily exercise is something you should look forward to with great anticipation.

Always eat good healthy food that doesn't leave you felling starved. It will take time for your body to adjust to this as you change from bulky poor quality food to nutritious food served in smaller portions.

It can take time for your body to adjust and one of the best ways to help out in this situation is to drink more water.

I often wonder why people are reluctant to exercising since exercising is on of the best ways of losing weight.

There are types of exercises that can cater to practically anyone even the obese people that find exercise difficult.

To reduce your body's weight and improve your overall fitness there are three low impact excesses that I recommend they are swimming, biking, and walking. If your obesity has reached the point that you find walking difficult you can speed up your metabolism and burn fat by swimming.

Nordic walking is popular these days for for two reasons.

By using the poles when you walk you use a lot more of your upper body muscles this helps to burn more calories.

Extremely overweight people whose joints take quite a hammering when walking due to their weight will find it beneficial using the poles.

Nordic walking is becoming a very popular exercise throughout the country.

What Is Weight Watchers Point List?

By Jessica A. Andersen

Weight Watchers is one of the longest running weight loss programs in the country. The plan has even reinvented itself to give plan users variety and therefore another reason to stick with it. The Weight Watchers program is based on the POINTS? system and group support.

Your weight category when you start with Weight Watchers will be assigned a specific range of points these are the points you can eat in any given day on the plan. Now as long as you stay within that point range you will lose weight and the good news here is that there aren't any food restrictions you can get you're your calories from fried chicken and the other half from cookies just as long as you do not exceed your daily point limit.

As a weight watchers dieter you'll be keeping track of your points in a weekly food journal or using a weight watchers calculator. You can subtract the total points of everything you eat to determine the points you have remaining. Now members also attend a weekly weigh-in and group meetings. Here you'll get advice from group leaders and listen and share successes stories and commiserate over the rare story of failure.

We all know that weight fluctuates often, weekly, daily and even hour to hour. This can be due to water weight and things like menstrual cycle, for women. Weekly weigh-ins do track progress but can sometimes be discouraging to the person who is staying within their daily points and exercising but only losing one or two pounds or worse, gaining a pound.

The food that you will eat is assigned a point value that is determined based on serving size. The plan has an extensive list that contains many different foods but there is not a point value for every food that you could possibly eat. Those foods to be given a slide rule that will help you determine the individual point value based on fat, fiber and calories per serving.

The weekly meetings have a small associated cost. Before you weigh-in at the meetings you'll be charged. It's inexpensive and if you pay the charge you will have access to the meetings, the support, and the encouragement of fellow attendees. As a bonus you will have access to fantastic online tools as well. The meetings might even be conducted at your workplace is there are enough employees that are interested in participating.

The weight watchers diet has been expanded! The diet now includes chocolate candies, cereal, breads, yogurt, and frozen meals. In fact the point system developed by weight watchers is now so common that other frozen meals made by other companies have the weight watchers point values on them. And these days weight watchers has many different plans to fit the needs of almost any dieter.

Exercise is encouraged after the first few weeks. Be aware that a person on the Weight Watchers plan needs to read as much information as is made available to them in order to get the biggest benefit from eating health. Although the Weight Watcher?s diet plan allows participants eat what they want, doing so will more than likely backfire when beginning to exercise. If someone is not ingesting the right combination of foods, exercise will not help the weight to come off. This is the cause of many dieters spinning their wheels and finding themselves getting nowhere fast with their weight loss goals.

If you are thinking about starting a Weight Watchers plan remember that your daily points are to be used as a guideline for what you should eat. If you don't learn the right of food to eat, you might lose weight at first but you won't ever learn how to create a healthy lifestyle. And one of the drawbacks of this plan is that you had to write everything down and watch your points but you will have a history documenting exactly how you lost weight. You can refer to it learn from it and use it as a guide in the future ever you need to lose weight again.
