10 Things To Do And Not To Do During An Anxiety Attacks

Most of us came across an anxiety attacks at one time or another in our life. Strangely enough we didn't even know that we were under anxiety attacks. What are the do's and don'ts when we are under attacks?

1) Please calm yourself since you are not dying.

If you are thinking that you are going to die, then it will aggravate more fear which lead to more anxiety. It is going to make your situations worse rather than solving it.

2) Do not breathe from your chest. Take a deep breath from the abdomen.

Even under normal circumstances, chest breathing would means that you are in fear. Chest breathing could lead to increase in dizziness and numbness during anxiety attacks.

3) Keep thinking positively.

It is natural for you to have negative thought during the attack such as I am fainting now or I cannot breathe. Try to turn the situation around since negative thinking will breed fear and worsen your situation.

4) Keep feeding your mind with positive thinking

Keep telling yourself that you are going to get through this soon. Anxiety attacks is indeed temporary. By thinking positively the whole experience is easy.

5) Help from health care professionals are always there for you.

Your own family doctors, counselors, psychologist, psychiatrist and mental health professionals should be able to advise you on how to cope with anxiety attacks.

6) People who are close to you like your spouse, children or trusted friends deserve to know and share your problems.

People that are close to you such as your spouse and friends are a great source of help. They should be able to emotionally support you to go through the hard times.

7) It is very important to strictly follow your health care providers professionals advice. Take your medication on time and follow all the program that was scheduled for you.

8) Don't be helpless.

You have all the help you need out there. Put yourself together. Take charge of yourself, be positive get into action gear and go. You have the right to live a happy and worry free life.

9) Good news, you are not alone.

Support group is a great resources to learn from as well as contribute your opinion and share your experience. I'm sure you could find many support group that suit you in your locality.

10) Open up your mind. Learn more about anxiety and panic attacks.

There are many educational materials that you can get such as books, audio and video materials. The more educated you are about panic and anxiety attacks, the less fear you have. With more knowledge you are able to manage your problems wisely.
